Welcome to One Million Steps Fighting Hunger, a virtual race supporting the Federation of Virginia Food Banks!
More than one million Virginians struggle with food insecurity. Amos Desjardins will take one step for each of them He will make this seven-day 500-miles journey across Virginia from October 9-16, 2017.
Amos and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks want you to join Amos virtually with a team of up to 6 people.Virtually follow Amos' course around Virginia in his 500-mile run. Create a team and try to run or walk the miles by October 31!
The virtual route will feature water stops mirroring those on Amos’ journey. Each racer will get a digital bib and finish placard, plus seven e-postcards about food insecurity in Virginia, plus a real bumper sticker!
To participate, run or walk anywhere you want, fighting hunger one step at a time. Then log the activity and see your team avatar advance on the virtual route map and leaderboards... catch a Google Street View of your virtual locale... cheer fellow racers… post about the race on social media… get friends to donate!
While all participants help fight hunger, we know some racers also will get very competitive. If Amos can do 500 miles in one week, how long will it take your team of six to finish the virtual route? To keep everyone on the same page, we've created some guidelines on logging miles:
- We rely on the honor system. You don't need a device to validate your miles -- a good map
- Please attribute your mileage to the right day, don’t combine multiple days’ mileage.
- Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
No matter how many miles you run, keep raising money to fight hunger! Compete on the team and individual leaderboards by using your personalized link to solicit donations. Your business, town or group will get credit too when you identify that group in your Racery bio.
This virtual race benefits the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation created to support the food banks in providing food, funding, education, advocacy, and awareness services and programs throughout the Commonwealth. FVFB gets 100% of donations and $26 of entry fees, less credit card fees.
Special thanks to our partners Valans Physical Therapy, Virginia-Carolina Peanut Grower Associations --for helping power the One Million Steps Fighting Hunger!
